Septic Trauma
Septic Trauma was formed early 2011 with the intention of creating a new kind of fusion between many styles of music including all kinds of metal, gypsy jazz and classical indian konnokol rhythms. Started by ex-members of Metal 2 The Masses winners Credit To Dementia, the band jammed as a trio consisting of Kyle Willoughby on guitar, Matt Pascoe on bass and Alex Goodrich on drums for a couple of months, whilst searching for another guitarist and vocalist to fill out the line up.
After enlisting the talents of Mike Stennett (another M2TM winner) on guitar and Martin Gay's insane vocals the band have been working hard ever since, and
have so far recorded a debut EP 'Subservience' which has won high praise from several metal blogs and radio stations.
The EP has received many favourable reviews, being described as "absolutely stunning at times, incorporating tasty, catchy melodies with just enough brutality to keep you slathered in death metal bliss." There have also been comparisons to some of the biggest names in 'tech-metal' including Beyond Creation, Obscura and Gorod.
After their first UK 'mini tour' supporting the likes of Krisiun, Vital Remains and Malevolent Creation, Septic Trauma concentrated on writing and rehearsing new
material for their first full length release. The band have decided to concentrate on this pretty much exclusively for the next few months with the occasional gig here and there just to let everyone know they're still alive! As soon as the recording process for the album has been completed the band will be heading out on the road again for a much more extensive UK tour, details of which will follow soon.
Adding to the current live set, the rest of the album features a lot more intense, brutal 'old school' death metal riffing while keeping in line with the melodic and rhythmic aspects developed in the band's repertoire so far. Plenty of polyphonic guitar harmonies, fretless bass solos, and more fucked up rhythms to keep it all moving along nicely. The lyrical content has featured such family friendly topics as resurrecting aborted foetuses and male erection phobia (Ithyphalliphobia) all delivered with extreme vocal diversity from piercing highs to guttural lows and everything in between!
As all the members of the band listen to such diverse styles of music, it is a challenging and time consuming process to merge it all into one coherent 'sound'. This is something which was started with the Subservience EP and the aim is to refine and develop it with all subsequent albums, eventually creating what the band hopes to be their own 'sound/style'.
One of the main ingredients to try to hold it all together has been use of rhythm, specifically the Indian concept of Konnokol, which involves creating irregular groupings
of notes within a bar and developing the idea so that each tune has it's own sort of rhythmic theme or identity. The other main aspect is, of course, trying to keep interesting and contrapuntal (differing in shape and direction) melodies going on each instrument being apparent throughout a song and not just for a chorus or a solo section.
To sum it up the band is aiming for something brutal, technical and challenging in nature but at the same time groovy, jazzy and melodic!
